MG & The Howlrounds

MG & The Howlrounds rise out of Austin, Texas like a mirage of vintage soul and cosmic Americana. Led by New Zealand songwriter and frontman Matthew Gregg, whose gritty guitar tones and weathered vocals channel a lifetime of stories, the band weaves a rich tapestry of psychedelic grooves and rock ’n’ roll spirit. Anchored by the melodic basslines of Augie Gmitter and the deep-pocket pulse of Mikey Best on drums, the trio delivers a sound that feels like a fever dream at the crossroads of Stax, Laurel Canyon, and Outer Space.

Upon moving to the States. Gregg founded Americana, Rock n Roll quintet ‘Western Youth’. MG & The Howlrounds is a departure from that sound but still stays true to all which is nostalgic yet unmistakably new, MG & The Howlrounds conjure music for the soaring highs, the desperate lows, open highways, late-night revelations, and the beautiful mess of being human. Their debut EP drops Summer 2025—a swirling, soulful statement from a band that’s just getting started.
